Welp, that was fun! What a roller coaster the past 2 months have been.
What I’ve learned –
I really had no idea what I was getting myself into when I started this project. I felt called to commit to it and follow through, but I wasn’t certain of it’s overall purpose.
About 30 days in, I was in the shower, where I do a lot of my thinking, and had a revelation. It hit me like a ton of bricks, the reason for all of this – faith. I have struggled so much with my faith in God and people throughout my life, but this project gave me some much needed confirmation. Day after day, I would post new paintings and welcome the world into my life. I was quite hesitant about this at first, considering I’ve never been one to broadcast personal information on the internet, but I felt that it was a way to tell my story as well as let others interpret the artwork and take what they needed from it. I can’t tell you how many positive responses I received; it was overwhelming and amazing! Each piece spoke to different people in different ways, even the ones that I would have liked to paint over or throw out. For a lot of the pieces, I would just start painting, not knowing where they were going or what I was trying to say, but either later that day or the next (sometimes in the shower, haha), the message would be revealed to me. I would be lying, if I said that every single painting had a deep, significant meaning, but I can say that a lot of the pieces that I started just for fun became something else when I sat down and analyzed them.
This project has given me an outlet to talk about issues that I think are important and ones that I think will just make you laugh or reminisce. God has given me the skills to work with my hands but he wanted me to use my words as well to better convey the messages to others. He has shown me so much in such a short period of time. He has opened doors, hearts, and made connections that I could have never predicted.
The world needs the arts because it is a way to unite people, share different perspectives, and illuminate God’s great creation!
I want to thank you all for your continuous love, support, and enthusiasm for this project; I can guarantee I would have lost steam without you pushing me and I’m so grateful for you.
So, you ask, what’s next?
I’ve been blessed with quite a few projects lately, so completing those and preparing the 50 paintings for reproduction (prints, plaques, cards, etc.) will be taking up some of my time. Also, reflecting – on what has happened, the people I’ve met, the stories that were told, the stories that still need to be told, the reason for all of this. Oh yeah, cleaning – digging out of the mess that our house has become; Mike will be glad about this! I also plan on continuing to paint, I’m hooked; I don’t think I could go months or years without picking up a paintbrush, like I once could.
I will definitely keep you updated on current happenings and upcoming shows or events that I will be participating in. The spring and summer are full of ’em!
Stay tuned by checking here and my facebook fan page, I’ve got something big up my sleeve and will let you know about it as soon as I can!
Thanks again! 🙂
